Sunday Musing: Thoughts on The Good Place Sunday Musing: Thoughts on The Good Place

NBC’s The Good Place centers around the concept of an afterlife with a Good Place and a Bad Place analogous to Heaven and Hell. Sure it’s just a network TV sitcom but I can’t help consider the theological underpinning of the show. Spoilers through the second season premiere ahead.

When Do You Realize The Zombie Apocalypse Is Happening? When Do You Realize The Zombie Apocalypse Is Happening?

That question came to mind early on when I was watching Fear The Walking Dead. It underlies much of the first episode for the viewer who knows where things are going. But put yourself in the head of someone in the show’s world. When do you realize that some really freaky shit is happening?

Tomorrowland or Why I Gave Up On My Jetpack Tomorrowland or Why I Gave Up On My Jetpack

The reviews for Tomorrowland were mixed at best (the io9 review said wait until it’s on Netflix and it was at 49% on Rotten Tomatoes) so I was a little hesitant to see it this weekend. But I’m glad I did because I liked it. Spoilers ahead.

Overthinking the Star Trek: Enterprise Episode “In a Mirror, Darkly” Overthinking the Star Trek: Enterprise Episode “In a Mirror, Darkly”

I watched Star Trek: Enterprise intermittently when it aired and missed the two parter "In a Mirror, Darkly" until I watched it recently on a whim. It ties together two episodes from the original series and fleshes out a particular corner of Star Trek. It also raises questions if you think about it.

How do you cope with being liberated from the Borg? How do you cope with being liberated from the Borg?

This is my liberated Borg character from Star Trek Online with Seven of Nine. She* clearly carries many more physical signs of her Borgness than Seven. Since I think too much about this sort of stuff I often wonder what the implications of being liberated from the Borg would be.

What do Luke and Han know about their galactic history? What do Luke and Han know about their galactic history?

I'm a bit of a history buff so I think about stuff like this. Revenge of the Sith takes place about twenty years before A New Hope (19 years before the Battle of Yavin according to Wookieepedia ). But Han, Luke and many others seem quite ignorant of events before Order 66 was implemented.

The Walking Dead has me thinking a lot The Walking Dead has me thinking a lot

The direction The Walking Dead has taken in the back half of this season has really made me introspective about what I would do. I've already written about the sort of person I might become. This week's episode had me thinking some more about that. Spoilers and navel gazing ahead.

Overthinking - Gravity Edition Overthinking - Gravity Edition

Once again I’m overthinking a movie. This time it’s Gravity, a movie that appealed to the little boy in me who read young adult science fiction and still wants to be an astronaut. There will be major spoilers ahead. And now… let’s light this candle!

What’s the Story? – Pacific Rim Edition What’s the Story? – Pacific Rim Edition

Overthinking alert! The Jaeger crews have been on my mind since seeing Pacific Rim and as is my wont I’m curious about their stories. Spoilers ahead.

What’s the Story? – Oblivion Edition What’s the Story? – Oblivion Edition

I like to wonder about the secondary characters in movies. We often find out the stories of the main characters but what about the partners, buddies, and henchmen? For example, Alfred in Nolan’s Batman movies was more than just a butler. So in Oblivion I’m curious about Victoria. Major spoilers ahead.
